is it ok to delete result files before completion?

#1 Post by qdinar »

if a partition/device of target is full, i deleted files i did not need, and compressed good ones to other partition. so i freeed space of the partition. and i reused that in same search. i believed it is ok because dirs with lower number stayed with older modification time...

but now an idea have come... it may find continuations of previous files and add to them. (the idea have come after i have seen the sector counter, growing from zero to a maximum... like if it goes just in one direction...).

but when i deleted previous files it continued to work, not saying it had lost anything...

i should add, what was criterion of the goodness, for this my case. i kept only files with txt filename extension, and files smaller than 200000 bytes.

why such criterion? because i wanted to restore only text files that user has written himself.

i should add this here, because somebody might think that i checked every file content and saw they were good. no. they might be parts of text files. i only quickly looked at several of them. they might be good even if were parts, like html template parts.
