Reformatted ex Hdd. Recovered part 1 but part 2 fail

#1 Post by ewiz »

Info about the HD:
Western digital 512gb Hard Disk.
I used this hdd on a dell laptop. I had Os on the Drive "C" and Important files on Drive "D"
Partition size was approx 250 gb each.
Sytem Reserve ususaly take some space i dont remeber

Current sitiation:
Due to laptop damage I decided to use it as Mass storage drive.
It was working fine for several weeks and it started giving issue last week. When I Plug in the HD the system will detect both drive or partition wont show up. I need to safely remove connection and reconnect cable to see the drive and partition. (I should have transfered data by this alert, but I failed to do that.)

Yesterday when i plugged it nothing showed up even after second connect. Tried several time but the same. Windows asked me to create partition.
I decide to format and recover the drive so i created new single partition to check any hardware issue. the drive formatted well and I am able to see the drive.

Recovery:
I am new to testdisk.
Something I did (lol)and somehow managed to recover important files from primary (0) which is Os Drive
but not able to find data on Primary(2) which is 2nd Drive (D).
while recovering the hdd just had a single partiotion(500gb).

So I decided to format the drive again with 2 partitions. still i am not able to recover files from partition 2.

Please check if your problems persist by connecting the dubious disk to a different machine using a different cable and a different power supply - or connecting the disk internally.

For a quick disk check please post your smartmontools log file:

(I should have transfered data by this alert, but I failed to do that.)

Yesterday when i plugged it nothing showed up even after second connect. Tried several time but the same. Windows asked me to create partition.
I decide to format
Formating is destructive for data.
and recover the drive so i created new single partition to check any hardware issue. the drive formatted well and I am able to see the drive.
You might see the newly formated drive but no data in there.

This was another destructive move.

Insteading of playing around with an unstable disk you should have duplicated the disk using ddrescue as described in the manual.
Afterwards, you could have applied all possible recovery software, including the TestDisk package, to your clone.
So I decided to format the drive again with 2 partitions. still i am not able to recover files from partition 2.
You cannot increase the number of partitions by formating.
If you manipulate the number of partitions you partitioned your disk. Each partition can be formated then.

All of your actions rather destroyed data than recovering them.

When providing documentation about the disk, post your TestDisk log file.

Here are instructions how to use TestDisk. I recommend runninng smartmontools and ddrescue first!

I tried Diskgenie and it shows my partition as such with folders and files.I am able to dig few of my data with free version.(Very happy to see my datas are alive still). To recover entire data the charges are expensive for me at the moment.I just started new venture and yet to generate a penny. My datas are important to continue.
So please help me to recover.
Thank you
