Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: 000000

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I have a Seagate Backup Plus portable drive that has always been used with an iMac, and I'm pretty sure was originally formatted for use with both Mac and PC. We plugged the drive into a PC and got an error message that it needed to be reformatted. We did nothing. When we plugged it back into the Mac, we got a similar message and disc utility won't let us repair it. We get the following error message when we try to repair: Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: 000000.

Does anyone have any insight into what might have happened? And whether or not TestDisk is the solution?

Many, many thanks in advance!

Jessica

Would it be possible to upload a screenshot from TestDisk Analyse to cheuck your current partition structur.
A boot sector diagnose would only make sense if your partition in your partition table would match?
