TestDisk for lost versions of an MS Word file?

#1 Post by ThomasGarrod »

Looking at the documentation, I don't see how I would use this tool for finding a Word doc. Forgive me if I'm being dense, I'm in shock. I don't know how it happened that my file is an older version than the one I spent hours on just a few days ago.

TestDisk and PhotoRec can only recover your lost document if it hasn't been overwritten by new data.
You can undelete your file using TestDisk as described in

Just to be clear, you are saying that TestDisk can't find any temporary files that Word may have created? Or are you saying that you are sure that there would be no temporary files to find? I think what happened is that I failed to save at the end of the day and the next day closed the file without saving. My hope was that temporary files would remain for a period, but I've read that Word 2011 does not support "versions."
