no partition on SDmicro

#1 Post by totallybree » 09 Oct 2014, 14:42

Hi there!

I have a 64 gig SDmicro card that lives in my phone. I had it plugged in to my PC with an adapter, and I think the adapter was faulty. It was working fine, but then the connection flickered, and then my card read as blank. It wasn't recognized by my PC or by my phone either - I get a message asking if I want to format. I tried other recovery programs but none of them worked.

I have been trying to use testdisk, but I'm having a hard time understanding the instructions, because my results don't match the samples I've seen, and I've read through the forums, but I haven't found any answers there.

I can get thru the beginning part, but when I do quickscan, it says no partition found or selected. When I do deeper scan, same result - no partition found. It says A to add partition, L to load backup, Enter to continue, if I hit enter, it says again, no partition found. I don't know how to proceed from here. Can someone please help? I'll paste
my log here. Thanks so much!

Current partition structure:
Invalid FAT boot sector
1 * FAT32 LBA 0 32 33 7764 108 24 124733440
1 * FAT32 LBA 0 32 33 7764 108 24 124733440
Looks like that you already have a partition in your partition table, but probably appears as RAW?
Looks like a boot sector problem?
If your partition is correct?
Can you run testdisk / Advanced / Boot.
Please upload a screen shot.
I'll check your boot sector and its backup.
Use the menu List to have a try to list your files.
If they're bad you can run Rebuild BS.
If it's successful have another try to list your files using the menu List.
If your partition is not correct you can run testdisk and Deeper Search.
Please let me know, If more partitions are found?

Fiona,

Thanks so much for your response!

Here's the screenshot after doing Boot:

Here's a screenshot after doing RebuildBS:

I was able to use the List command to access and copy some files, but there were several folders (and one specifically that I really want to retrieve) that said "no file found, file system may be damaged", so I'm not sure - will those ever be recoverable?

I tried doing Deeper Search, and at the end of that it said the same as before - "no partition found or selected for recovery".

Thanks for your continued help! Sorry this is being difficult.

If the boot sector is bad and the backup of the boot sector too, testdisk will not find any partition for recovery.
I've already seen that both are bad.
In this case you'll need datarecovery software.
PhotoRec could help.
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step
But it doesn't recover original file names and directories.
Please let me know, what kind of file types do you want to recover?
You can use PhotoRec and FileOpt and press s to deselect all file types and only mark those file types where you'd like to recover.
Please scan the whole space.

Fiona,

Thanks so much! I was able to recover almost everything, so I'm really happy!

If I reformat this card, will it be usable? Or will it have a greater risk of failing again in the future?

Once again, much appreciation for your kind help!
