RAW Partition Recovery ( dual OSs Windows and Ubuntu)

#1 Post by croco » 19 Dec 2014, 02:32

I have Dell laptop with Windows 7 as a primary OS. Also, I have Ubuntu installed. My hard drive became raw and I can't boot anymore ( whether from Windows or from Ubuntu). My last hope is to use testDisk to fix the partitioning problem. I ran the testDisk according this tutorial http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk ... _selection and this is the picture I got

In the first picture, the option that is highlighted has my Windows 7 OS files. The problem is that there is no star that indicates the primary bootable OS as mentioned in the tutorial. I don't know what to do?

Run TestDisk again but select the physical drive instead of E:

I'm getting confused with how to choose the type of partition (i.e. primary, logical, ...). According the link in my previous post, there should be (0 1 and 1 1) well this is not the case with me. The following pictures are I've done

In the below picture, I have set these settings (I'm not sure about them).

I don't know how can I choose the right type for each partition. Before missing with the setting, the Startup repair tool in Windows 7 ( using DVD ) recognizes the windows 7 but now after the messing with testDisk, there is no operating system recognized. The following picture shows the trouble

I still have some hope because the files are still there ( see the last two pictures ).

The partitions should be marked as P(rimary), *(bootable), L(ogical), L(ogical), P(rimary) in this order.
