recovery EXTREMELY slow

#1 Post by frankieta »

Hi, I have a damaged external hard disk (fell on the ground) and I'm really struggling to recover some data from it.

I recovered some photos (the important data are jpg and CR2 raw files) with another software (almost 2000 files) but this morning the recovery stopped because there was some sort of I\O errore ( maybe one of the damaged sectors in the hdd). The recovery was already very slow, at a pace of 40Kb\sec and to recover those files took 2 weeks.

So I tried using photorec under windows andò although it started recovering files it says that the remaining time is somehing like 10.000 hours.

I will leave it till tomorrow so see what it is recovering bit I fear that the physical damage of the hdd is making the recovery this slow.

What do you think?

PS: the disk is a Western Digital 1 TB

You should clone the disk to a new empty one using gnu ddrescue

Once it's done, remove the original disk and use PhotoRec on the clone
