Hello there,
My 3TB Toshiba HDD on MS Windows 7 computer all of a sudden became RAW.
Testdisk found only FAT16 partition (which is incorrect - there is NTFS). I follow an advice from the forum topic and perform RebuildBS from advanced menu. After that I could see my NTFS partition, but there are no files listed in there.
I used testdisk to run deeper search (it took about 3 days), and got a list of 7 (or so) partitions with 2 NTFS and warning "the following partitions can't be recovered" before the list. The only option was "continue". After I continued, I got a list (longer than before) of partitions, all marked as P. I put cursor on what I thought is the best match for my data and press Enter (maybe this was a mistake). Eventually I found myself in the main menu with no deeper search result (frustrating!!).
So, I'm quite puzzled. Is it impossible to recover the data from the disk? If it possible, what should I do and what was my mistake? Should I run deepersearch again? Could you please advise my steps?

Try TestDisk, Advanced, Boot, RebuildBS, List. If you can see your files, choose Write and confirm.
You can also try "cmd" (right click run as administrator) and "chkdsk /f d:"

Thank you for suggestions, cgrenier.
Alas, suggested RebuildBS, List commands showed only two lines of filesystem which I believe are the top folder and navigation item. No files listed.
chkdsk was the very first thing I tried, unsuccessfully... It doesn't see the disk at all and suggest format it. That how I came to the TestDisk solution.
As I mentioned in the previous message, I RebuildBSed boot sector, and after that testdisk could see the NTFS partition (actually, the disk has no partitions, as I recall, just the plain disk) .

I have no idea what are the listed partitions came from (except NTFS). Which of the NTFS partition I should "restore"? Which seems more likely as "right" one from the numbers on the screenshot? I'm not good with disks and filesystems at all, just followed "Step-by-step"guide and the forum posts.
In the meantime I start the deepersearch again (should be finished in 2 days) since I have no other solutions. I expect this will bring me to the state as on the screenshot. Could you please suggest what should I do to recover the files (or the disk as whole, if it possible) after deeper search?

Under TestDisk / disk selection, you should select Disk instead of a drive and have another try.
Only disk contains a partition table, which would be available under the menu Advanced.

Fiona, thank you for the advice. I think, I finally figured out what I shoud do.
Alas, my BIOS is not capable to determine 3TB disk (shows 801GB instead and no BIOS update for my Asus p5q-e...).
So, the list of files (in Advanced->List) shows nothing, but for another 3TB disk (healthy) it reflects actual file list. Maybe BIOS is not a problem.
I started another Quick Search (chose disk instead of drive, as you suggested), it will take about 12-15 hours and probably helps to get filelist to recover.

Seems like I reached the impasse.

My BIOS has no update (last was in 2009) and don't allow to properly analyse the disk (not drive) since shows only 801GB instead of 3TB.

Performing DeeperSearch on drive (not disk) results two partitions: NTFS (matching size) and FAT32(smaller size, never existed on the disk) And even DeeperSearch detects NTFS table (appears in results), when continue it shows only FAT32 partition ( with voulme lower than 3TB). Marking FAT table to delete results no partitions.

Advanced menu shows some bogus partitions with filesystems I don't even know exist and strange volumes.

My idea to remove the disk and run TestDisk on the laptop will not works: as I understand, TestDisk only allow to copy files, not to restore the files on the disk. Since my laptop has 256GB disk (free about 20Gb), no place to copy.

So, I started "chkdsk /f d:" as cgrenier suggested, and if it doesn't helps, than ... Just format it with all data lost.
