testdisk Apr 2015 VS Jul 2013 (no longer shows LABEL?

#1 Post by dgerman » 23 Nov 2015, 02:01

I had been using version from July 2013 (from recent GParted live CD) and it displayed the LABELS of the NTFS volumes.
Unfortunately I got a kernel panic, so I thought I'd use the newer version from April 2015.

1) The newer version does not display the volume LABELs (OS,DATA,APPS,PHOTOS... windows 7)
Is this now an option?

2) I looked for a description of changes but could not find any.

3) Using the deep search (not all partitions are on cylinder bonderies , my bad! )
The newer version also finds duplicate entries for example:

HPFS - NTFS 9095 151 17 11199 12 13 33792000
HPFS - NTFS 9095 151 17 11199 12 13 33792000

4) It also finds several NON-partitions with message:
check_FAT: Unusual media descriptor (0xf8!=0xf0)
Warning: number of heads/cylinder mismatches 64 (FAT) != 63(HD)
FAT12 21620 213 34 21620 229 49 1024

Any suggestions / comments would be appreciated,
and
Thank you VERY much for these GREAT utilities.

I don't seem to be able to run the WIP version.
I have been using a live CD.

I downloaded WIP and tried to run the testdisk_win.exe from the ....cygwin/bin directory.
I got a message missing DLL cyggcc_s-1.dll

Under cygwin but I cannot get past permission denied.

Is there a package for cygwin I should install?
Thanks

Did you unzip the package?
What's your OS?
Can you boot?
As far, I can confirm that there are no labels displayed.
