Imac keeps logging out at end of Testdisk run

#1 Postby funkster » 20 Jun 2012, 01:16

I have tried running Testdisk 3 times now to analyse and repair an external 1TB disk which became unreadable when re-partionning of it failed previously.

On each occasion, the imac (OSX 10.7.4) on which I have been running Testdisk has logged itself out. When I log back in again, the Testdisk process in Terminal has closed, meaning I have to start over again, although I can see the TestDisk log.

This is extremely frustrating, as each TestDisk run lasts about 16 hours. I thought it was just some freak occurrence and a coincidence to begin with, but it has happened three times in a row now. The first two times, I had left Testdisk to run overnight, and I found the next morning that log-out had occurred. However, the last time it occurred just a few minutes or possibly even immediately after TestDisk finished. I had hoped to be at the computer to catch the end of the Testdisk process, but because TestDisk takes so long, it is nearly impossible to sit at the computer all the time. On this last occasion, I missed the end of the process by only a few minutes at most, but the imac had already logged itself out by the time I returned.

While running Testdisk, I have set imac never to go to sleep, in case that was related to problem. The imac has never logged itself out in such a way in any other circumstance. I can't see any message in computer which seems to explain the problem.

I am going to try it again on another mac, but does anyone have an idea of what could be happening? Here is latest TestDisk log I received:
