What to do next? wait for bad blocks or initialize?

#1 Post by messer » 30 Oct 2017, 17:37

Hi,
I return after 4 years to this forum.
Geetings to all!

I am trying to recover files from a damaged apple partition.

The hd is severely damaged not sure what to do with it next.

- I can not boot the hd.
- I can not make a backup from main partition. After several hours there are no hd read or write activities when I look at the activity monitor app or computer crashed.
- quicksearch ineffective after several hours I stop testdisk.
- When I run photorec the recovered files are useless and photorec stops after a while or crashes the computer.
- spinning sounds the hd seem ok.

What possibly happened to damage the HD:
I remember that this HD was full atone point.
I think there is a problem when the HD is forced to write more than available space.
Also the HD got a big hit plus the laptop battery burned and it got heat.

So the process is utterly slow because of bad sectors.
What is the best approach to recover when HD is full of bad sectors?
Shall I initialize and recover from there?

Thank you for your reply.
