TestDisk shows XBOX FATX partition

I've been using TestDisk to analyse all my hard drives to make sure they are correct and one of them came up as XBOX instead of Intel which surprised me as I have Windows XP installed on it. Thinking back I may have used this drive in an XBOX (the first one) and then took it out to use it back on ...

Re: Can't open filesystem. Filesytem seems damaged.

Seems my screenshots have disappeared.

The message was MFT and MFT mirror are bad. Failed to repair them.

Not good news by the looks of it. I've googled the term and it seems TeskDisk has limited options from here. If both the $MFT and $MFT Mirror are bad then is there no way to reapir the MFT ...

Not sure why this happened. It was working perfectly normal. The two drives that have done this were connected to the USB port via USB-to-IDE cable like this one;

Re: Can't open filesystem. Filesytem seems damaged.

I forgot to attach the log. Very strange message shows up. Something about "MFT has invalid magic"?

Can't open filesystem. Filesytem seems damaged.

I've had two IDE PATA hard drives go like this on me in the past couple of weeks. Not sure why. Basically, the drive is still visible in Windows XP. It shows up in My Computer with the drive letter but with no volume showing. It won't let me do chkdsk on the drive either.

Re: Can't read MFT?

I just want to say thank you to both of you. I misunderstood the relevance of chkdsk. I did run it with the /f switch and it repaired the MFT and my files are now readable in Windows.

Here's a screenshot

Re: The hard disk seems too small!

OK I did all that and the problem still persists. I can list the files on the drive in TestDisk (and have copied some of them to another drive) but the drive itself won't show up in Windows. (The 500GB disk drive should show up as E: and F:).

Can't read MFT?

I have a 500GB PATA IDE Hard drive (Western Digital WD5000AAKB). It seems the MFT is corrupt or bad. The drive was split into two drives, 34GB and 430GB after formatting with NTFS. The first drive still shows up in Windows but the larger one doesn't.

I ...

Best way to analyse a corrupted hard drive?

It's a 500GB IDE PATA HDD with one partition. The C: still works and boots Windows XP but the D: is not showing up in "My computer".

Is it best to scan this drive set as master on the primary channel or have it as a slave drive on the secondary channel?

What I'm asking is does it make any ...
