Re: Need help recovering my ext hard disk please

I see a week has gone by without an answer. If you have not solved the problem, on the partition you can't access, if you do a search on it, can you find the files? If yes, can you save the files to one of the other partitions?

Sorry, I can't help you further, just find comfort that the files may ...

Re: A 400+GB log file upon crashing?

It doesn't seem so. I'm accessing the drive now doing an Intel search just for testing purposes - and it's making no noise and working.

I'm going to look to see if there is anything retrievable in this log, but I've got to find a program first. If anyone knows what to use, I'll check back.

A 400+GB log file upon crashing?

Fell asleep with my Testdisk almost through running a three day scan on a 3 TB drive. Woke up and before I could get my coordinates, computer BSOD' me. Now, I have almost a 500 GB testdisk.log file. Uhhh wot?

Needless to say, neither Note nor Wordpad opens it.

Re: Recover disk geometry with partitions

Any chance you could get a second drive and copy all the info to it instead? I'm just guessing, and hope I'm not getting in the way, but is it possible when you try to write the new partition it is taking into account all of the drive space, thus making it a larger drive than it is?

Feel free to ...

Re: windows 7 does not want to shutdown after crashed usb HD

Pardon me, while I mean no offense, it may not be possible to read and not be slightly offended. I presume English is not your native language? If I'm correct, English is the only language I speak and therefore, you know at least one more than I do. :)

I do not run 7, but may be soon, so I'm ...

Advanced Format drives and alignment SW. OT?

After I realized that I am spending 30+ hours a week trying to recover my data - for more than a couple - I bought a 2TB WD today to help give me some leeway to work. Unlike prior drives, I connected it to my system using my Vantec adapter - not enclosure - and XP Home with SP3 saw it with no ...

Re: How do I stop testdisk

Just the letter 'q'. Maybe it's the same as quit, I've just used it so much in navigating the menu when saving files from a lost partition and navigating to the next directory that I just see the letter.

Re: How do I stop testdisk

I'm presuming 'Q' didn't work? The only time I've found myself having too close the program down to get out of a screen was I think in I was in type or one of the others that I seldom use. Otherwise, Q is my go to key.

Hey, I have found that if you click anywhere in the window and leave a white rectangle "space' it may pause the operation. Always click on the title bar or if another window, make sure you don't leave a space marker and you should be fine. I discovered that the hard way Wednesday night/Thursday ...

Re: Okay, this is my WD 3TB problem. Edited.

After 3TB WD drive went thru EFI-GPT detection of partition.jpg And five hours later, I awoke to this:

Hours after the last screen capture. Bad sectors.jpg

My guess is the drive has three partitions, a small Acronis bridge that allows for XP to see the larger drive, than the two real partitions ...
